GRAPEVINE, TX (October 24, 2017)--Global traders would do well to consider both Foreign-Trade Zones (FTZs) which deliver significant savings on duties, as well as Drawback, a refund of certain duties, taxes and fees.

During the International Compliance Professionals Association (ICPA) Fall Conference, Integration Point Senior Vice President-Global Markets Clay Perry joined with Tony Nogueras, President of Alliance International yesterday in comparing the benefits of FTZs and Drawback.

The two compared and contrasted U.S. FTZs—which deliver significant, timely duty savings through avoidance and deferral when exporting and importing, alongside Drawback--a refund that benefits any party along the supply chain, and permits recovery of duties, taxes and fees paid on certain imports within three years after the transaction. Such refunds are only allowed upon the exportation or destruction of goods under U.S. Customs and Border Protection supervision.

Perry also noted that while FTZs are well known in the U.S., many companies fail to utilize similar zone programs outside the U.S.—in their supply chain configurations.
