The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) made a major announcement at Tuesday’s NAFTZ Legislative and Regulatory Seminar.

APHIS intends to phase out the long-standing exemption from the declaration requirement for reporting Lacey Act information on Type 06 entries from foreign-trade zones (FTZs).

During a presentation, the agency announced that they were committed to working with NAFTZ and importers to create an orderly transition to reporting Lacey Act data for Type 06 Customs entry summaries in ACE.

This new reporting requirement will be a big change for FTZs. You can expect more details to be announced in the coming weeks. NAFTZ has also stated that they are planning some educational webinars to give further guidance on complying with these APHIS (Lacey Act) reporting requirements.
